  11.      PTI1S506.ADD is the driver for the IBM OS/2 2.0 and IBM OS/2 2.1.
  12.      Please read all the information before preceding with the install.
  13.  
  14.      You will only need this driver under the following situations:
  15.  
  16.      - You want to install TURBO MODE under OS/2.
  17.      - Your Disk Accelerator is installed as the PRIMARY disk controller
  18.        with more than two IDE drives attached.
  19.      - Your Disk Accelerator works as the SECONDARY disk controller.

  23.      THIRD AND FOURTH PARTITION SETUP
  24.          
  25.      IMPORTANT - Please read this section if your controller has drives
  26.      supported on the second IDE bus connector.
  27.  
  28.      It is recommended to use only OS/2 drive partitioning utility for the 
  29.      third and fourth HDs.  With an OS/2 partition utility, make LOGICAL 
  30.      UNITS on these drives.  PRIMARY Partitions should be created on ONLY 
  31.      THE FIRST TWO HDs.  These recommendations are made to avoid changing 
  32.      the original OS/2 assigned drive order. The OS/2 error message after
  33.      the driver is loaded in config.sys "Cannot Find COUNTRY.SYS" is a 
  34.      symptom of this setup problem.  
  35.      
  36.      ALL partitions created from a DOS partition utility on the third and 
  37.      fourth hard drives will produce this problem.
  38.  
  39.      If your PROMISE Disk Accelerator is installed as the PRIMARY 
  40.      controller, Hard Drives D2 and D3 (i.e. the "THIRD" and "FOURTH" HDs) 
  41.      attached to the second connector should be partitioned as LOGICAL 
  42.      UNITS through the OS/2 partitioning.

  44.      If your PROMISE Disk Accelerator is installed as the SECONDARY 
  45.      controller, ALL partitions on the controller should be created as 
  46.      LOGICAL UNITS.
  47.

  49.      These are the steps to recreate existing PRIMARY partitions as LOGICAL 
  50.      UNITS.  
  51.   
  52.      1. Backup the data. 
  53.     
  54.     Backup any necessary data stored on D2 and/or D3.   
  55.      
  56.      2. Delete the D2/D3 partition(s).
  57.      
  58.     Delete the PRIMARY partition(s) created on D2 and/or D3. From a DOS
  59.     BOOT, use the "SIFDISK.EXE" utility from the PROMISE DOS Utility 
  60.     diskette to accomplish this.  
  61.     
  62.     WARNING: Deleting partitions will destroy data.  Be careful to 
  63.     select the correct drive partition(s) you wish to delete.

  66.      3. Install the PTI1S506.ADD driver in OS/2.
  67.      
  68.     Follow steps under the "DRIVER INSTALLATION" below.  Boot OS/2  
  69.     with the PTI1S506.ADD driver installed to access the third and 
  70.     fourth physical drives.
  71.

  73.      4. Create partitions as LOGICAL UNIT(s) on D2 and or D3.
  74.         
  75.     Open the "Drives" folder in the OS/2 desktop and run the FIXED DISK   
  76.     UTILITY.  Partition the drive(s) as LOGICAL.

  78.      5. Format the partitions.
  79.  
  80.     Proceed to Format the new partition(s).

  82.      6. Restore data.

  84.     Restore the backed up data onto the partition(s).

  87.      DRIVER INSTALLATION
  88.      
  89.      Please follow the steps below for installing the driver for the PROMISE
  90.      Disk Accelerator.
  91.  
  92.      1. Install the OS/2 driver.
  93.  
  94.     Copy PTI1S506.ADD to the OS2 directory of your system.
  95.  
  96.     Add BASEDEV = PTI1S506.ADD in the CONFIG.SYS file.
  97.     Note: This statement must not contain either drive or path
  98.           informartion.
  99.  
  100.     If your mainboard CPU has a 16-bit external bus (for example, IBM
  101.     486 SLC2), add the /W parameter to the statement.  If no parameter
  102.     is specified, the controller will function under the default 32-bit
  103.     data access mode.

  105.      2. Delete the "BASEDEV = IBM1S506.ADD" device setting.
  106.  
  107.     Delete the command line "BASEDEV = IBM1S506.ADD" from the 
  108.     CONFIG.SYS file, if it exists.

  110.      3. Reboot the system.

  114.    The following switches are available on this driver and may apply to 
  115.    your system:
  116.  
  117.    /V    : Verbose - display driver information at initial time
  118.    /I    : Ignore adapter - driver will not initialize the adapter indicated
  119.    /<!>R : Reset adapter - enable or disable reset
  120.    /<!>DM: DASD Manager support - enable or disable IBM-supplied DASD device

  122.    /T    : drive Timeout - the total allowable error recover time
